What Is Jewelstone?
Jewelstone is a natural stone overlay. Small, rounded natural stone aggregate is mixed with a clear, UV-stable epoxy binder and troweled over an existing concrete slab. The result is a seamless stone surface that looks like a river-stone finish, grips underfoot and reflects heat.
Jewelstone vs Other Pool Deck Options
| Option | Look | Joints | Heat | Maintenance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plain concrete | Grey | Control joints | Hot | Cracks, stains |
| Pavers / interlock | Patterned | Many joints | Varies | Weeds, shifting |
| Stamped overlay | Pattern | Few | Warm | Reseal |
| Jewelstone | Natural stone | Expansion only | Cooler | Rinse |

The Base Slab Matters
Jewelstone is an overlay, so it follows the base slab. If the slab is heaving or cracked through, the overlay will crack too. We assess and repair the base, keep expansion joints working and integrate pool coping so the finish is clean at the water’s edge.
Book early
Pool decks are best done in early spring so the surface cures before opening day. For coping and structural deck repairs, see concrete pool repair.
Jewelstone also works on front walks and steps. For a paver look, see interlocking stonework.
Jewelstone overlays are installed by our Toronto masonry and concrete crews and quoted fixed-price within 24 hours of the site visit.
