Marty Russo: Three Generations of Stone + Brick
Marty Russo grew up around stone. His family's Italian stonework trade came to Vaughan a generation before him, and he learned to set stone and lay brick on family job sites before he could drive. By 2003 he was restoring heritage brick in Rosedale and Cabbagetown, the neighbourhoods where Toronto's oldest and most demanding masonry lives.
From 2010 to 2018 he led the masonry division of a mid-sized Toronto heritage contractor, running crews on Victorian and Edwardian facades, multi-flue chimneys and Heritage Conservation District projects. That is where he developed the lime mortar colour matching that Toronto Heritage Preservation now uses as a reference: a written analysis of binder, sand and joint profile, a mix built on site and a sample panel approved on the wall before full pointing begins.
In 2018 he launched Toronto Elite Masonry to run work the way he thought it should be run. Own crews and fleet, no sub markup. A written CAD quote on letterhead within 24 hours of every site visit.
