Scarborough grew fast after the war: its population went from 48,000 to 110,000 between 1950 and 1955, filled by new single-family subdivisions. Those 1950s foundations and chimneys are now about 70 years old.

Along the lake, homes in **Birch Cliff**, **Cliffside** and **Guildwood** sit above the **Scarborough Bluffs**, a cliff that a 1912 study found retreating about 0.71 metres a year.
